Plotosus lineatus (Thunberg 1787) — Striped catfish, striped eel catfish ( Fig. 15 )

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 10 May 2009.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa and Algoa Bay ( South Africa) east to Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Korea, southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia at 32°S and Lord Howe Island. Found in coral reefs; also in estuaries, tidal pools and on open coasts, 1– 60 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
