Megalops cyprinoides (Broussonet 1782) — Indo-Pacific tarpon

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa east to Society Islands, north to southern Korea, south to northern Australia. Adults in coastal waters, juveniles in mangrove habitats, estuaries and lower reaches of freshwater streams, 0–50 m depth. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
