Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by White et al. (2018: 263), White & Ko'ou (2018: 62) based on underwater observation in Kavieng District by Dietmar Amon and D. Borcherds.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa and Mascarenes east to Philippines, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia), Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island and New Caledonia. Found on rocky and coral reefs, 1–500 m depth. Marine.
