Carcharhinus albimarginatus (Rüppell 1837) — Silvertip shark ( Fig. 3 )

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 130). Confirmed records from an observer program on shark longline vessels in 2014 (NFA and CSIRO, unpublished data); commonly observed by dive operators; caught by artisanal fishers (W. White). A set of jaws collected from Cape Saint George in 1965 (KFRS E048) recently confirmed as this species ( White & Ko'ou 2018: 31). A specimen photographed by Serge Andréfouët off the southern tip of Bauddisson Island, Kavieng District, St. KVG15, on 17 Aug. 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands and Panama, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia, New Caledonia and Tuamotu Archipelago. Found throughout the water column, 0–800 m depth. Marine.
