Status at New Ireland. New record, based on confirmed records from an observer program on shark longline vessels in May and June 2014 (National Fisheries Authority NFA and CSIRO, unpublished data); tissue samples and vertebrae retained.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 3, 5.—General distribution: Tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific seas. Pelagic, 0 – 150 m depth. Marine.
