Diagnosis (following Fiege & Böggemann 1999). Body slender, elongated, depressed with deeply incised parapodia. Integument and body appendages usually papillated. Prostomium small; palps biarticulate, palpophores distinct, palpostyles minute; 2–3 antennae, median antenna sometimes absent. Achaetous, tentacular segments almost fused with prostomium, with two pairs of tentacular cirri. Dorsal and ventral cirri reduced. Parapodia biramous. Short, stout, or extended notopodia with distally bent notoacicula and hooked chaetae from chaetigers 3– 13. Neuropodia funnel shaped or truncate lobes. Neurochaetae simple, with variable length, finely to roughly spinous, tips entire or bidentate. Pygidium with two short anal cirri. Pharynx globular, unarmed, with or without papillae.
