Stenolis giesberti View in CoL sp. nov.
( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 13 – 17. 13 )
Description. Male. Integument predominantly dark brown, basal half of antennomeres III–XI and legs pale brown. Pubescence predominantly grayish; dark-brown pubescence covers four to six rounded spots on pronotum, a curved line on base of elytra, and three subtriangular irregular patches on middle of each elytron. Antennae reaching apex of elytra at distal end of antennomere V. Lateral sides of prothorax rounded, maximum width middle. Pronotum with single line of punctures near posterior margin, and densely and minutely punctured on anterior half. Apices of elytra obliquely truncate, angles not projecting. Entire surface of the elytra densely and finely punctate. Urotergite V triangularly emarginate at middle of apex; urosternite V transversely truncate. Metatarsomere I as long as II+III.
Female. Antennae reaching apex of elytra at the middle of antennomere VI; fifth urotergite rounded at distal extremity; fifth urosternite transversely truncate.
Measurements (mm), male/female. Total length, 4.7/4.5; prothorax length, 1.0/1.0; prothorax width, 1.2/1.2; elytral length, 3.4/3.5; humeral width, 1.4/1.3.
Etymology. The name is a tribute to my dear friend Edmund Giesbert, who wrote on the label of one specimen: “ Stenolis sp., undescribed”.
Type material. Holotype male, PANAMA, Panama: Cerro Azul (Altos de Pacoras, 4–10.I.1994. J. E. Wappes col. ( ACMT). Paratypes, same data, 2 males, female ( ACMT), 1 male ( MNRJ).
Comments. The patches of dark brown pubescence are ill-defined, and more or less developed in different specimens.
