Genus Indobatis View in CoL , g. n., Weigmann, Stehmann & Thiel
Diagnosis. Claspers short (postcloacal length 16% of TL when mature); inner dorsal lobe lacking clefts, spur, and palp, but with flag, slit, and pseudosiphon-like cavity that is bordered by the sharply serrated pecten; inner ventral lobe without rhipidion, but with very long pent, proximally serrated shield, eperon, sentinel, spike, and two sentinas. Terminal clasper skeleton with proximally displaced dorsal terminal 1, deeply serrated dorsal terminal 2, and pistol-shaped dorsal terminal 3; long ventral terminal bifid with subtriangular, broad, and long main part and proximally diverging, long and slender, strap-shaped process, which curves around the dorsal terminal 3 and the accessory terminals; accessory terminal 1 rod-shaped, its proximal part embedded in cavity of the baseball-glovelike head of narrowly spoon-shaped accessory terminal 2.
Etymology. Indobatis g. n. refers to the distribution of the genus in the western Indian Ocean (greek Indos = India, greek batis = skate or ray). Gender is feminine.
Type species. Indobatis ori ( Wallace, 1967). View in CoL
Remarks. The new genus is erected on basis of the strong differences, as compared to all other species of Anacanthobatidae , in external glans components and skeleton of the clasper. A detailed comparison of the external and internal clasper characters of the different genera and subgenera of Anacanthobatidae can be found in Table 1 View TABLE 1 .
