Cryptoxyleborus confusus Browne, 1950:644 .

Taxonomy: The female of the species was described from West Malaysia ( Browne 1950), and the male from East Malaysia ( Sarawak) ( Browne 1962). The holotype (BMNH) has been examined, and compared with specimens in BMNH, RAB and ZMLU. It is characterised by the subopaque upper surface, and the confused elytral punctuation.

Distribution: E. Malaysia ( Sarawak), W. Malaysia. The species is newly recorded here from Brunei Darussalam, E. Malaysia (Sabah) and Indonesia (Sumatera).

Biology: The gallery system is described and illustrated by Browne (1961). Brood sizes ranged from 18–39. The species is recorded from Shorea leprosula Miq. in West Malaysia, and four other species of the same genus in Sarawak ( Browne 1961). Beaver and Browne (1979) recorded it from an unidentified dipterocarp tree in Pulau Pinang, West Malaysia.
