Taxonomy: The lectotype designated by Schedl (1979) is in NHMW. Although Schedl (1942) states ‘Typen im Imperial Insitute of Entomology und in meiner Sammlung’, no types were ever returned to London, and the species is not represented in BMNH. It was listed under Webbia by Wood and Bright (1992), and incorrectly noted as originally described in Cryptographus [sic], but the species was returned to Cryptoxyleborus by Bright and Skidmore (1997). Bright and Skidmore (2002) note that the references to the supposed synonym, Xyleborus decorus Schedl , in Wood and Bright (1992) refer in fact to an unnecessary replacement name for Xyleborinus micrographus (Schedl) . The species is related to C. opacicaudulus and C. simplex , with an antenna of type 1, but distinguished by the characters given in the key.

Distribution: The species was previously known only from West Malaysia. It is recorded here for the first time from East Malaysia (Sabah).
