Discussion: Placed in a separate subfamily Saimirinae by Hershkovitz (1970 a) and Napier (1976); according to Groves (2001 c), Chrysotrichinae Cabrera, 1900, has priority. The species fall into two groups, S. boliviensis species group ( boliviensis , vanzolinii ) and S. sciureus species group ( sciureus , ustus , oerstedti).
