Distribution. East Palaearctic, subboreal. Middle Volga region, southern Ural, Altai, Tuva, Irkutskaya Oblast, Buryatia, Transbaikalia, Amurskaya Oblast, southern part of Khabarovsky Kray, Primorye. Outside Russia: Kazakhstan, Mongolia, N and SW China, N Korea.
Hostplants: Ribes , Artemisia ( Beljaev 1993) .
Note. Recently S. strictaria was transferred to the genus Phthonandria ( Müller et al. 2019) but in the new edition of the Catalogue of the Lepidoptera of Russia ( Beljaev & Mironov 2019) it was kept in the genus Synopsia . Indeed, S. strictaria does not correspond to type species of the genus Synopsia , Geometra sociaria Hübner, 1799 , and should be replaced in another genus within Gnophini . However, E. Beljaev points out (personal communication) that the genus Phthonandria is not appropriate for this species too. S. strictaria possesses a number of considerable morphological differences from the type species of the genus Phthonandria , Hemerophila atrilineata Butler, 1881 , e.g. reduced proboscis, the absence of hair pencil on the hindtibia, small and weak uncus in male (in contrast to one in Ph. emaria , see Fig. 19I View FIGURE 19 ).
