Distribution: Grassland and forest of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu ( Japan); Dogo Isl, N Tsushima Isl ( Japan).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Imaizumi (1970 b:128) recognized five taxa as valid subspecies. Harada et al. (2001) studied the karyotype (2n = 34, FN = 64) of the species and discovered two parapatric karyotype races in C Honshu.
