Accentor erythropygus Cabanis

Accentor erythropygus Cabanis, 1870c: 457 .

Now: Prunella collaris erythropygia (Swinhoe, 1870) View in CoL . See Hartert & Steinbacher (1935: 334). Type series: Cabanis (1870c: 456–457) described this species on the basis of a single male, which is still present in the ZMB. It is possible that he saw also four specimens later listed by Taczanowski (1889: 8) as types of A. erythropygus , but there is no evidence for this. Hence, we list here the specimen in ZMB as the holotype of the species.

Holotype: ZMB 19767 (B.7841), skin, ♂, collected by B. Dybowski on 15 July 1870 [= 27 July 1870] in “regii alpini” and "Utulik" (Dybowski’s label) at Lake Baikal, i.e. apparently in the Hamar-Daban Mountains (cf. Mlíkovský 2007a: 57) above the village of Utulik at Utulik brook.

Type locality: “in der alpinen Region südlich vom Baikal-See” ( Cabanis 1870c: 456), i.e. “in the alpine region south of Lake Baikal”. Dybowski’s itinerary ( Dybowski 1930; Mlíkovský 2007a) and data on the Dybowski label attached to the specimen further allow restriction of the type locality to the alpine region of Hamar-Daban Mountains at the Utulik brook above Utulik village [51.6°N, 104.0°W]. Remarks: Cabanis (1870c) also mentioned a fledgling received from Dybowski ( ZMB 19768, B.7841; not found in 2008), which he was unable to compare with a similarly young Accentor alpinus [= Prunella collaris (Scopoli, 1769) ], having none at his disposal. He added, however, that a few "adult" feathers already present on the young differed from the same feathers of A. alpinus , and he ( Cabanis 1870c) only conditionally identified the young as belonging to Accentor erythropygus . It thus does not belong to the type series upon which the species was based.
