12. Synedrosphenia gomphonema (Janisch & Rabenhorst) Hustedt ( Figs 66–68 View FIGURES 58–68 )
Basionym: Synedra gomphonema Janisch & Rabenhorst.
Type locality: Honduras .
References: Hustedt 1931 –1959, p. 241, fig. 723; Cheng & Gao 2013, p. 60, pl. 12, fig. 149, pl. 23, figs 342, 343.
Morphometrics: Valves 335 (240–750) μm long, 23 (18–28) μm wide in the widest parts, transapical striae 13 (12–14) in 10 μm.
Remarks: This taxon widely distributed in the coasts of warmer ocean, in Central America, South Asia and Australia, and fairly common near Banyuls in southern France ( Hustedt 1931 –1959), occurred as plankton in Tahiti ( Ricard 1977), and Takapoto Atoll of Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia ( Delesalle et al. 2001) and as an epiphyte in the Bahamas ( Hein et al. 2008). It has been known as a widespread taxon by Hustedt (1931 –1959), but has only been reported in a few places. This species was found very rarely as an epiphyte in rock pools along the Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island, and newly reported for South Korea.
