scientific name

Liparia laevigata (L.) Thunb.
status

Borbonia umbellata Linnaeus  , Mantissa Plantarum Altera: 269. 1771.

RCN: 5434.

Type not designated.

Original material: none traced.

Current name: Liparia laevigata (L.) Thunb.  ( Fabaceae  : Faboideae  ).

Note: Linnaeus gave the alternative name Liparia umbellata  (seemingly not published elsewhere) in the protologue, and this was repeated in Syst. Veg., ed. 13: 554 (1774). Neither this name nor L. umbellata  is invalid, having been published pre-1953 (Art. 34.2). Schutte & Van Wyk (in Taxon 579. 1994) and Schutte (in Nordic J. Bot. 17: 29. 1997) treat this as an illegitimate name, synonymous with Liparia laevigata (L.) Thunb.
