Discussion: Revised by Nader (1978) who included nelsoni ; but also see Anderson (1972), Matson (1980), Hall (1981:581), and Williams et al. (1993) who presented evidence of specific distinctness. Reviewed by Best (1988 a, Mammalian Species No. 311). Subspecies listed by Best (1988 a) and Williams et al. (1993).
