DISTRIBUTION: Uruguay; adjacent Brazil; E. Argentina; S. Paraguay.

COMMENT: Includes aquations; see Massoia and Fornes, 1964, Physis, 24(68):279-297, Hershkovitz, 1966, Z. Saugetierk., 31: 102, and Voss and Linzey, 1981, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Mich., 159:10, 15; but also see Gardner and Patton, 1976, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. La. St. Univ., 49:26, 30, who listed aquaticus as a distinct species.
