COMMENT: Revised by Goldman, 1910, N. Am. Fauna, 31:1 -124, and Goldman, 1932, J. Mammal., 13:59-67. Burt and Barkalow, 1942, J. Mammal., 23:287-297, Genoways and Birney, 1974, Mamm. Species, 41:3, and Hall, 1981:771, included N. (Hodotnys) alleni in this genus, but Carleton, 1980:121, considered Hodotnys a distinct genus. Karyotypic variation reviewed by Mascarello and Hsu, 1976, Evolution, 30:152- 169. Subfamily Hesperomyinae ; see comment under Cricetidae .
