Species, 41:3, and Hall, 1981:771, included N. (Hodotnys) alleni in this genus, but Carleton, 1980:121, considered Hodotnys a distinct genus. Karyotypic variation reviewed by Mascarello and Hsu, 1976, Evolution, 30:152- 169. Subfamily Hesperomyinae ; see comment under Cricetidae .
