DISTRIBUTION: Uruguay and N.E. Argentina.

COMMENT: Subgenus Oligoryzomys ; see Langguth, 1963, Communic. Zool. Mus. Hist. Nat. Montevideo, 7(99):1 — 19, Massoia, 1973, Rev. Invest. Agro. INTA, ser. 1, 10(l): 21 —37, and Gardner and Patton, 1976, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. La. St. Univ., 49:19. Possibly conspecific with longicaudatus ; see Cabrera, 1961:389, who placed this species in subgenus Oryzomys .
