TYPE LOCALITY: Argentina, Tierra del Fuego Prov., Bahia Monteith, Strait of Magellan .
DISTRIBUTION: S. Argentina; S. Chile.
COMMENT: Included as a distinct species in Abrothrix by Pine et al., 1978, Mammalia, 42:105- 114, and Bianchi et al., 1971, Evolution, 25:724-736. Reig, 1978, Publ. Mus. Munic. Cienc. Nat. Mar del Plata "Lorenzo Scaglia," 2(8): 173, considered lanosus a distinct species and Abrothrix a subgenus of Akodon . Corbet and Hill, 1980:151, listed lanosus as a subspecies of longipilis , without comment.
