The following specimens are characterized by yellowish-whitish hairs on frons, clypeus and propodeum. This is conform to Sphex diabolicus flammitrichus STRAND sensu van der VECHT 1973: 343.

L a o s -c:1, Bolikhamsai pr., Ban Nape env., 350m, 18°20’N 105°08’E, 7.-16.V.2004, leg. Jendek & Sausa.

V a r i a t i o n (?): These specimens are characterized by black hairs on frons, clypeus and propodeum. Van der VECHT 1973: 343 writes on this problem: " Sphex fulvohirtus BINGHAM 1890 , described fom Ceylon, is very similar in general appearance, but differs in having the bristles on the clypeus black; its status deserves further study."

I can not find differences to the specimens above in male flagellomeres (broad placoids on IV-VI) and genitales. Indeed further examinations should be done!
