Subfamily Protominae Marwick, 1957 View in CoL

Marwick (1957) introduced the subfamily Protominae to allocate the Neogene European Turritella cathedralis Brongniart, 1823 and its allies (such as ‘ Protoma basteroti Benoist’) and the Recent Protoma knockeri Baird, 1870 from Western Africa. Erroneously, he considered Turritella cathedralis as type species of Protoma instead of P. knockeri . Although, Turritella cathedralis is designated herein as type species of Allmonia , the subfamily name remains unchanged as Protominae , following ICZN Article 35.3 (the application of each family-group name is determined by reference to the type genus of the nominal taxon).
