scientific name

Rivina humilis L.
status

Rivina humilis Linnaeus View in CoL , Species Plantarum 1: 121. 1753 View Cited Treatment .

"Habitat in Caribaeis, Jamaica, Barbados." RCN: 1006.

Lectotype (Wijnands, Bot. Commelins: 172. 1983): Herb. Clifford: 35, Rivina 1 (BM-000557794) .

Generitype of Rivina Linnaeus.

Current name: Rivina humilis L. View in CoL ( Phytolaccaceae ).

Note: Fawcett & Rendle (Fl. Jamaica 3: 156. 1914), followed by a number of later authors, indicated 163.1 (LINN) as type, but this sheet lacks Linnaeus’ Species Plantarum number ( “1”) and appears to be a post-1753 addition to the collection, and not original material for the name. Smith (Fl. Vitiensis Nova 2: 262. 1981) suggested that Clifford material might make a suitable lectotype, subsequently formalised by Wijnands.
