Material

Type. Holotype: ♀: Israel: ‘ Ein Kelt (2 ks), 12.06.1973 (M. Tuitpulver). Deposited in TAU.

Differential diagnosis

This species is related to S. flava Verves and Khrokalo , sp. n. by petiolate r5 and the colouration of body and legs; it differs by presence of four pairs proclinate orb, numerous fr and by more narrow frons.

Body length 5.5 mm.

Female. – Head. Black, intensively light coloured. Genae and hind part of occiput with numerous short pale hairs, oral setae black. Head densely yellowish white dusted, occiput light grey pollinated; fore part of frontal vitta yellow, without pruinescence; antennae and palpi yellow. Frons at vertex 0.32×, at level of antennal base 0.26× headwidth. Frontal vitta at level of fore orbital bristles as wide as fronto-orbital plate, 2.5× widened backwards. First flagellomere 2.9–3.0× as long as pedicel. Parafacial plate at level of antennal base 0.16×, genae 0.05× eye height. Palpi middle long, at apex strongly widened; prementum long, 6× length of its wide. One regular row of porb; vte distinctly longer than vti, both strong, oc long and fine, hair-like; orb 1 + 4, long and strong, fr 9–10, strong, medium long; fronto-orbital plate and parafacial plate almost bare, with microscopic light setae; facial ridges above angular bristles bare; oral setae 1–3. ‒ Thorax. Black, intensively light grey dusted, apex of scutellum yellowish, longitudinal stripes of mesonotum absent. Dorsal surface and pleurae covered with dense short black setae; acr 0 + 1, dc 2 + 2–3, ia 0 + 2, pprn 2, kepst 1 + 1, fine; npl 2, notopleural surface without additional short setae. Scuttelum with three pairs of strong marg and one pair of ds. ‒ Legs: Legs entirely yellow, all f with light grey pollination. t2 with one anterodorsal seta (ad). ‒ Wings. Hyaline, basicosta and epaulette yellow. Costal spine absent; r5 petiolate, its marginal section as long as r-m; M acute-angled, without apical tuck; dm-cu straight; 3rd section of C 0.5× as long as its 5th section. ‒ Abdomen. Dorsal surface light grey pollinated, yellow laterally; 1 + 2nd tergite dark brown, with light dusting; each of 3rd – 5th tergites with median brownish black spot in basal 0.3–0.4 and distinct paired lateral bands; the last are brownish yellow at 3rd and blackish brown at each of 4th and 5th tergites. 1 + 2nd and 3rd abdominal tergites without marg, each of 4th and 5th ones with a row of marg.

Male unknown.

Etymology

The species epithet refers to the pleasant colour pattern of the fly. From the Latin word laetans ‒ the pleasant.
