Genus Vermiliopsis Saint-Joseph, 1894 View in CoL

Type-species: Vermilia multivaricosa Mörch, 1863 , new name for Vermilia infundibulum sensu Philippi, 1844 . Number of species: 16.

Diagnosis. Tube white, circular to sub-quadrangular in cross-section, usually with 3–7 longitudinal keels and peristomes. Granular layers absent. Operculum with inverse conical ampulla, covered by flat to conical chitinized horny cap bearing internal septa. Peduncle wrinkled, cylindrical, without wings, constriction present. Pseudo-operculum generally absent. Radioles arranged in (semi-)circles, interradiolar membrane absent. Branchial eyes may be present. Stylodes absent. Thorax with seven chaetigers. Collar trilobed, tonguelets absent. Collar chaetae limbate and capillaries. Thoracic chaetae limbate, capillaries and Apomatus chaetae. Thoracic uncini saw-shaped, with blunt peg. Abdominal chaetae flat narrow geniculate with a crenulated margin. Abdominal uncini rasp-shaped, anterior peg blunt. Anterior achaetous abdominal zone absent. Long posterior capillary chaetae present. Posterior glandular pad present.
