Comment. Coiffait (1966a) based the original description of X. lederi on a single holotype male from the Caucasus, without specification of the locality. An examination of the aedeagus revealed that it is conspecific with X. crassicornis ; hence the synonymy proposed above.
In the original description of Xantholinus martensi , which is based on a male holotype and two female paratypes, Bordoni (1983) assigns the species to the subgenus Calolinus , without reference to X. crassicornis . A comparison of the holotype of X. martensi with material of X. crassicornis yielded no significant differences or other evidence that the former should represent a distinct species, so that X. martensi is here placed in the synonymy of X. crassicornis .
The previously known distribution was confined to Georgia, the Russian South European territory, and northeastern Turkey ( Herman 2001, Korge 1973, Smetana 2004). The species is here recorded from Azerbaijan for the first time.
