Papuabarcinus riedeli n. sp.

( Figs. 31, 32; photo 13)

Material examined: Holotype ♂ card mounted:” Irian Jaya / Manokwari Prov. / leg. A.Riedel ”//” Arfak Mts. 1300-/ 1650m, Mokwam / 17 IV 1993 ”//” Holotype ♂ / Papuabarcinus / riedeli n. sp. / des. E.Heiss 2009” ( CEHI); 1♀ card mounted:” 29 VIII 1991 Irian Jaya/ Manokwari b. Anggi/ Gn. Disbehey 2000–2150m / leg. A.Riedel ” ( CEHI).

Diagnosis: The new species resembles P. papuensis but differs from the latter and all other species of the genus by the shorter and more rounded lobes of deltg VI and VII and the shorter antennae, its ratio length of antennae/width of head 2.65–2.86x, which is always about or more than 3x in other species.

Description: Male. Macropterous, general habitus, colouration and structure of body and appendages as in other species of the genus. The description is therefore mainly refers to the characters as different from other taxa.

Head: About 1.4x as long as wide (24/17.5); genae with acute apices reaching slightly beyond ½ of antennal segment I; antennae rather short 2.65x as long as width of head; length of antennal segments I/II/III/ IIV = 16/9/14.5/7; postocular tubercle acute, directed posterolaterally.

Pronotum: About 2.26x as wide as long at middle (43/19); anterolateral lobe bifurcate, its anterior lobe not reaching to posterior level of eyes; posterior lobe anterolaterally expanded and rounded.

Scutellum: Wider than long (24/16), disk with usual structures.

Abdomen: Pe-angles of deltg II and III slightly produced and rounded, lateral margins of deltg IV and V subparallel and its pe-angles not produced; deltg VI and VII distinctly produced posterolaterally into rounded lobes; midlateral apodemal impressions distinct and exposed.

PHOTOS 13–18. Papuabarcinus riedeli n. sp., holotype ♂ (Irian Jaya, Manokwari); 14— Papuabarcinus intermedius n. sp., holotype ♂ (Irian Jaya, Bommela); 15— Brachybarcinus vietnamensis n. sp., holotype ♂ ( Viet Nam, Tam Dao); 16— B.vietnamensis , paratype ♀ (Tam Dao); 17— Brachybarcinus secundus n. sp., holotype ♂ ( China, Fujian) ; 18— Brachybarcinus baianus n. sp., holotype ♂ ( China, Yunnan) .

Hemelytra: Membrane fully developed reaching to 1/3 of raised tergite VII, veins irregularly anastomosing.

Genitalic structures: Pygophore with dorsal posteriorly produced conical sclerite which is shorter than in papuensis , paratergites VIII as long as pygophore, both about reaching apex of lobate deltg VIII.

Female: Larger than male with wider abdomen; pe-angles of deltg II–V roundedly produced, those of deltg VI and VII as in male, tergites VIII–X as long as lobe of deltg VII (fig. 32).

Measurements: Holotype ♂: Length 12.9 mm; width of abdomen across tergite II 60, VI 55, VII 35.5. Female: Length 13.6 mm; head length/width 26/18.5; pronotum W/l 47/22; scutellum w/l 27/17; length of antennal segments I/II/III/IV = 18/10/17/8; ratio length of antennae/width of head 2.86 (53/18.5); width of abdomen across tergite III 60, VI 55, VII 35.5.

Etymology: Dedicated to my friend Dr.Alexander Riedel (Karlsruhe) who collected these and many other interesting Aradidae during several expeditions to New Guinea and generously donated them to the authors collection.

Distribution: Two type specimens are from the Bird-head (Vogelkoop) peninsula in western Irian Jaya and might be restricted to that area. Map 2.
