Cephalophinae Gray 1871 View in CoL
Cephalophinae Gray 1871 View in CoL , Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1871: 588.
Genera: 3 genera with 18 species:
Genus Cephalophus C. H. Smith 1827 (15 species with 21 subspecies)
Genus Philantomba Blyth 1840 (2 species with 14 subspecies)
Genus Sylvicapra Ogilby 1836 (1 species with 13 subspecies)
Discussion: Reviewed extensively by Wilson (2002), with systematics revised by Grubb and Groves (2002). Jansen van Vuuren and Robinson (2001) studied phylogeny, using evidence from mtDNA. Sylvicaprina as Sylvicaprinae has only been used since 1899 as junior to Cephalophinae so should not replace it (Article 35.5, International Code of Zoological Nomenclature; International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 1999).
