Doryscus javanensis sp. nov. ( Figs 16 View FIGURE 16 E–16F, 19)

Types (n=16). Holotype ♂ ( NHMB): INDONESIA. Java: Gn Lawu, 8 km W of Sarangan, 1850 m, 10–11.V.2001, Bolm . Paratypes: 8♂♂, 7♀♀ ( NHMB), same data as holotype.

Description. Length 3.4–5.2 mm, width 1.3–1.9 mm. General color blackish brown; head and pronotum brown but laterally darker; inner area of elytra yellowish brown; legs dark brown, but femora yellowish brown ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 E). Antennomere I not modified in male not modified in males ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 A); length ratios of antennomeres I– XI 1.0: 0.4: 0.5: 0.7: 0.7: 0.6: 0.7: 0.7: 0.6: 0.6: 0.7, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 4.1: 2.0: 3.1: 4.0: 4.0: 3.7: 4.0: 4.0: 3.4: 3.2: 3.4; slender in female ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 B), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.4: 0.5: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.6: 0.7; length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 4.6: 2.0: 3.1: 4.4: 4.2: 4.4: 4.5: 4.4: 4.1: 3.8: 4.6. Elytra elongate, 1.9 x longer than wide, with erect yellowish brown, dense, elongate setae and coarse punctures. Apical margin of last abdominal ventrites with two shallow incisions in males ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 G); but weakly rounded in females ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 H). Penis ( Figs 19 View FIGURE 19 C–19D) wide, 6.4 x longer than wide, parallelsided; apex of dorsal surface with moderately deep notch, much below apex of ventral surface; apex of ventral surface with shallow groove; straight in lateral view, apex with deep groove between dorsal and ventral surface; ventral surface smooth. Internal sac with endophallic spiculae short, about 0.5 x as long as penis, apices trilobed, median lobe wide, lateral lobes extremely elongate, straight at lateral view; one pair of oblique, elongate, apically bifurcate spiculae near base, outer process much longer than inner process; another pair of horn-like spiculae at base. Gonocoxae ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 E) extremely slender, 6.7 x longer than wide, sides slightly narrowed at apical 1/10; apices narrowed rounded; inner margins narrowly approximate from apex to midpoint, apex with nine setae; extremely slender from midpoint to base but abruptly widened at base. Ventrite VIII ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 F) well sclerotized; spiculum elongate; apex square, apical margin truncate, with sparse short setae; disc with several long setae at sides. Receptacle of spermatheca ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 I) as wide as pump, strongly narrowed between receptacle and pump; pump strongly curved and apically narrowed; proximal spermathecal duct slender, basally widened, shallowly projecting into receptaculum.

Color variability. Some individuals have dark brown pronota and heads, and yellowish brown elytra except outer margins and sutures. Some females have yellowish brown bodies except darker pronotal margins ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 F).

Differential diagnosis. Doryscus javanensis sp. nov. adults are easily distinguished from those of D. boreri sp. nov. and D. sumatrensis sp. nov. by their characteristic color patterns, elongate elytra, and coarse punctures on the elytra.

Etymology. This new species is named for its type locality.
