Types (n= 10). Holotype ♂ ( BMNH), SINGAPORE, leg. C. J. Saunders, B.M. 1933-227 . Paratypes: PENINULAR MALAYSIA. Perak: 1♂ ( RBCN), Ipoh (30 km SE), 900 m, Cameron Highland, Ringlet , 25.IV.– 5.V.2001, leg. P. Čhechovský ; 1♀ ( RBCN), 25km NE of Ipoh , 1200 m, Banjaran Titi Wangsa mts Korbu mt, 6– 12.V.2001, P. Čhechovský ; 1♀ (RBCN), 2 ♀♀ ( UACB), 40 km Se Ipo , 900 m, Banjaran Titi Wangsa, Ringlet, 25.III.–3.IV.2002, P. Čhechovský; THAILAND . 2♀♀ ( NHMB), Mae Hong Son: Ban Huai Po , 1600 m, 9.– 16.V.1991, leg. Pachláko ; 1♂ ( SEHU), Doi Suthep, Chiangmai Prov. , North Thailand, 29.V.1983, leg. Y. Komiya , 1♂ (SEHU), same but with “light” and “ 31.V.1983 ”.
Description. Length 4.7–6.0 mm, width 2.0– 2.4 mm. General color yellow ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 E). First antennomere not modified in males ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.4: 0.6: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.7: 8.0, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 3.7: 1.8: 3.4: 4.2: 4.5: 4.5: 5.0: 4.9: 4.8: 4.5: 5.4; narrower in females ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.4: 0.6: 0.9: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.7: 0.8; length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 4.2: 2.0: 2.8: 4.4: 4.2: 4.1: 4.1: 4.1: 4.4: 4.0: 4.8. Elytra 1.7 x longer than wide, surface with erect, black, dense, elongate setae, and fine punctures. Apical margin of last abdominal ventrite with two well developed incisions in male ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 G); medial, shallow incisions in female ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 H). Penis ( Figs 3 View FIGURE 3 C–3D) extremely slender, 7.3 x longer than wide, parallel; apex of dorsal surface with moderately deep notch, much deeper than on apex of ventral surface; apex of ventral surface with shallow notch; almost straight in lateral view, apex with groove between dorsal and ventral surface; ventral surface smooth. Endophallic spiculae elongate, 0.9 x as long as penis, median spicula elongate, with a cluster of setae near base; two pairs of median spiculae, one pair apically tapering, the other pair deeply bifurcate, apices rounded; two pairs of spiculae near base, elongate and apically tapering, ventrally and dorsally located; lateral and longitudinal row of setae from base to apical 1/3, basal setae larger, apical setae irregularly arranged into cluster. Gonocoxae ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E) elongate, 6.4 x longer than wide, sides narrowed at apical 1/10; apices narrowly rounded; inner margins close to each other from apex to half, apex with nine setae; slender from midpoint to base but abruptly widened at base. Ventrite VIII ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 F) well sclerotized; spiculum long; apex square, apical margin truncate, with several short setae; disc with three long setae at sides. Receptacle of spermatheca ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 I) strongly swollen and transverse; pump slender and curved, apically tapering, apex narrowly rounded; proximal spermathecal duct basally and abruptly widened, deeply projecting into receptaculum.
Color variability. Specimens from Thailand have one pair of the dark spots on vertex or black vertex and yellowish brown erect setae on elytra ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 F).
Differential diagnosis. The holotype of Doryscus geiseri sp. nov. (collected in Singapore) is easily recognized by the black erect setae on the elytra. But paratypes (from Thailand) are similar to those of D. indochinensis sp. nov. with yellowish brown body, dense and elongate, erect setae on the elytra. Doryscus geiseri differs by possessing fine punctures and a pair of dark spots on the vertex, elongate median spicula and large basal setae of lateral and longitudinal rows of setae of endophallus.
Etymology. This new species is dedicated to Michael Geiser (Curator, BMNH), who encouraged me to study these beetles.
Distribution. Peninular Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore.
