Description. Length 4.2–6.2 m, width 2.1–2.5 mm. General color yellow brown; elytra blackish brown ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 A), sometimes only at lateral margins ( Figs 13 View FIGURE 13 B–13C), black coloration reduced in most females ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 D). Antenna filiform, antennomere I not modified in maless ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 A), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.3: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.6: 0.8, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 3.4: 1.8: 3.4: 4.2: 4.3: 4.2: 4.2: 4.3: 4.1: 3.8: 5.5; relatively wider in females ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 B), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.4: 0.7: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.7: 0.9, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 3.5: 1.9: 3.3: 3.9: 4.1: 3.9: 3.8: 3.8: 3.7: 3.4: 4.8. Elytra 1.7 x longer than wide, surface with erect yellowish brown, dense, and elongate setae; and fine punctures. Apical margin of last abdominal ventrites with two shallow incisions in males ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 G); but medially depressed in females ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 H). Penis slender, 7.1 x longer than wide, gradually narrowed towards apex; apex of dorsal surface with deep notch below apex of ventral surface; apex of ventral surface with shallow notch; straight in lateral view, apex with deep notch between dorsal and ventral surface; ventral surface smooth. Internal sac with endophallic spiculae elongate, about 0.8 x as long as penis, median spiculae recurved and with cluster of setae at apical 2/ 5 in lateral view, bifurcate from midpoint to base; three pairs of spiculae dorsally covered at base, one pair elongate and apically tapering, another pair short, basally widened, and apically tapering; the other hornlike, strongly widened at base. Gonocoxae ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 E) extremely slender, 7.3 x longer than wide, sides narrowed at apical 1/10; apices narrowly rounded; inner margins approximate from apex to midpoint, apex with nine setae; extremely slender from midpoint to base but abruptly widened at base. Ventrite VIII ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 F) well sclerotized; spiculum elongate; apex square, apical margin truncate, with dense short setae; disc with several elongate setae at sides. Receptacle of spermatheca ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 I) as wide as pump, narrowly separated from pump; pump strongly curved and not apically narrowed; proximal spermathecal duct elongate and slender, distinctly narrower than receptacle, shallowly projecting into receptaculum.
Differential diagnosis. Doryscus luzonensis sp. nov. adults can be separated from D. midanaoensis sp. nov. by the following combination of characters: lacking dark stripes on the elytra (with two pairs of dark stripes in D. midanaoensis sp. nov.).
Remarks. Seven specimens collected from the Philippines were deposited at the NHRS and misidentified as Doryscus testaceus by Weise (1924). They are members of D. luzonensis sp. nov. and D. mindanaoensis sp. nov., respectively.
Etymology. The new species is named for its type locality.
Distribution. Philippines (Luzon, Palawan).
