Conservation: IUCN – Endangered. Mexico – Endangered.

Discussion: Considered distinct from agilis by Best (1978). Reviewed by Best (1983 b), Best and Lackey (1985, Mammalian Species No. 236), Williams et al. (1993), and Patton and Alvarez-Castañeda (1999).
