Snout not much produced, shorter than the eye, which is very large, its vertical diameter being considerably more than the width of the interorbital space. Scales with from eight to ten subparallel keels. Upper and lateral portions of the head covered with small rough scales, lower naked. There are four scales in a transverse series between the first dorsal spine and lateral line; distance between the two dorsal fins equal to the length of the base of the first. Outer ventral ray produced into a filament. No scaleless fossa on the temple. Barbel small. Whitish, witli broad irregular blackish bands across the back.
