Diagnosis. Ecnomina foramen closely resembles other species in the group in possessing one pair of relatively robust dorsal processes on tergum X and meso-distally excised and fused inferior appendages. It is distinguished by tergum X with short, narrowly separated processes and inferior appendages without disto-lateral projections.

Description. Head, body and wings light brown, abdomen paler ventrally; wings similar to E. merki ( Fig. 172 View FIGURES 168–174 ). Forewing length about 2.6–2.7 times width: male 3.0– 3.4 mm. Forewing fork 2 relatively long, sessile, length about 1.2–1.6 times length of fork 3; fork 3 relatively long, with short footstalk, length fork about 2.5– 4.6 times length footstalk, footstalk length about 1.1–1.6 times length cross-vein m, r-m and m nearly contiguous at footstalk fork 3, r-m and m separated by about 0.3–0.9 times length of cross-vein m; fork 4 slightly shorter than fork 3; fork 5 long, length about twice length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 2.8 times width, fork 2 sessile, length about 1.4–1.7 times length of fork 3.

Male Tergum X membranous, with one pair of relatively short, simple dorsal processes, narrowly separated ( Fig. 158 View FIGURES 153–161 ). Superior appendages in lateral view, dilated slightly near middle, length about 2.5 times width ( Fig. 156 View FIGURES 153–161 ); in dorsal view, length about 4 times width, dilated slightly and with several spines distally ( Fig. 158 View FIGURES 153–161 ). Phallus simple, tube-like, obliquely truncate distally, with several short spines dorsally ( Fig. 156 View FIGURES 153–161 ). Inferior appendages short; in ventral view, fused in basal half, dilated and truncated distally, with oval excision meso-distally, length about two thirds width ( Fig 157 View FIGURES 153–161 ); in lateral view, dilated slightly distally, length about three times width ( Fig. 156 View FIGURES 153–161 ).

Paratype: Queensland. 1 male, (specimen CT-239 figured), Gordon Ck, Iron Range , 12 May 1975, Moulds ( NMV). Etymology. Foramen - Latin word for a hole or opening (inferior appendages). Remarks. Ecnomina foramen has been collected from two sites on Cape York Peninsula, northern Queensland (latitudinal range 11°44'- 12°43'S) .
