Group of Thoracophorus exilis ( Erichson, 1840) View in CoL
Compared to all species of the genus, the species of the Thoracophorus exilis group are intermediately sized between 1.6 and 2.8 mm. The species of the group are distinguished from other species of the genus by the combination of the following characters: eyes visible in dorsal aspect, even lateral margin of the pronotum that is not denticulate, the presence of a pair of swellings on the head, a depression with central swelling on the pronotum and elytral carinae. The following species are also included into the group: T. aequalis Sharp, 1887 , T. bruchi Bernhauer, 1933 , T. camponoti Irmler, 1985 , T. columbinus Irmler, 2001 , T. distinguendus Irmler, 2005 , T. hermani Irmler, 2005 , T. sahlbergi Irmler, 1985 , and T. silvaticus Irmler, 2010 . In contrast to the here described species, these latter species are longer than 2.0 mm. More details to the identification and the differences to T. exilis ( Erichson, 1840) are given in Irmler (1985, 2001, 2005, 2010).
