Coniceromyia blomae Peterson & Arntfield
( Figs. 41–44 View FIGURES 41 – 44 , 149 View FIGURES 139 – 157 , 201 View FIGURES 191 – 202 , 261 View FIGURES 258 – 263 )
Coniceromyia blomae Peterson & Arntfield, 1971: 395 , fig. 1. Refs.: Kung & Brown 2000a: 3. Holotype ♂, Mexico, Chiapas, 20–25 miles north of Huixtla (CNC; not examined).
Diagnosis (male). Circular maculation at wing apical third, except for an apical band. Foretarsomeres elongated, two dorsal setae on foretibia close to each other.
Material examined. 1♂, MEXICO: Chiapas: Yerba Buena: 16.35ºN, 96.07ºW, 8.vi.1969, 1760 m, W. Mason col. ( LACM) GoogleMaps .
Hypopygium description ( Figs. 41–44 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ). Hypopygium light brown. Epandrium extensively covered with microtrichia, with small proximal lateral areas bare; epandrial dorsal and left sutures present. Left epandrial process dorsally setose, with medially directed projection near base, a ventral lobe, subepandrial setose elevation near base ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 41 – 44 , white arrow) and subepandrial transversal elevation ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 41 – 44 , black arrow). Right epandrial projection with subepandrial group of setulae. Hypoproct with 2–4 setae. Right lobe of hypandrium could not be observed.
Geographical distribution. Southern Mexico.
Comments. Coniceromyia blomae , C. stephensoni , C. convergens and C. leucomacula are probably closely related, sharing an orange anterodorsal row of setae on the foretibia and a left epandrial process with digitiform, medially directed projection and a ventral lobe. The wing maculation pattern in C. blomae is very similar to that of C. stephensoni . These species can be distinguished as C. blomae does not have the white maculation on the forefemur anterior face.
