Coniceromyia mexicana Borgmeier View in CoL

( Figs. 101–104 View FIGURES 101 – 104 , 174 View FIGURES 174 – 190 , 226, 293)

Coniceromyia mexicana Borgmeier, 1963b: 456 View in CoL , figs. 8, 13.

Diagnosis (male). Anepisternum bare; wing hialin; left epandrial process with small medial lobe.

Material examined. Holotype ♂, MEXICO: Cuenavarca : Mor. [Morelos], 7–29.vii.1961, R. & K. Dreisbach col. ( USNM) . Paratypes: 1♂, same data as holotype, but ( MZSP) ; 1♂, MÉXICO: Chapultec ( MCZ) .

Redescription. Male. Body length, 1.8–2.0 mm. Head. Frons dark brown, sparsely setulose, with welldefined median furrow. Flagellomere 1 dark yellow, pubescent, elongate-conical. Arista apical, pubescent, about half the length of flagellomere 1. Palpus brown; two genal setae. Thorax. Scutum, scutellum and pleural regions brown; anepisternum bare. Legs light brown. Foretibia with two dorsal setae and anterodorsal row of strong setulae. Foremetatarsus with anteroapical setulose process, anterior excavation, long seta at excavation base and seta at base of the anteroapical process ( Fig. 174 View FIGURES 174 – 190 ). Hind femur not swollen (height/length ratio, 0.3), with posteroventral group of tiny blunt setulae narrow, adjacent to the ventral margin ( Fig. 293 View FIGURES 289 – 293 ). Hind tibia with one dorsal seta. Wing (Fig. 226). Costa swollen, 0.37 of the wing length; M1 concave, curved posteriorly at apex; M2 slightly sinuous, antero-posterior distance between M2 and CuA1 at CuA1 apex about 1.5 times the distance between M1 and M2 at the same level; CuA1 sinuous. Halter brown. Abdomen. Tergites dark brown, with lighter posterior band. Hypopygium brown ( Figs. 101–104 View FIGURES 101 – 104 ). Epandrium covered with microtrichia mostly dorsally, small lateral areas bare; dorsal and left sutures of epandrium present. Left epandrial process without long dorsal setae, with small dorsal lobe and apically setulose lobe. Right epandrial projection with subepandrial group of setulae. Hypoproct with two setae. Right lobe of hypandrium without lateral projection.

Geographical distribution. Mexico.

Comments. The most important additions to the original description of C. mexicana ( Borgmeier, 1963b) are the information on the foretibia anterodorsal row of strong setulae and the foremetatarsus seta at the base of the anteroapical process.
