Synonym: Dactylogyrus cf labeous Paperna, 1979 .

Type host and locality: Labeo coubie, Mare de Simenti (13º 01.790’N; 13º 17.608’W), Niokolo-Koba National Park, Senegal.

Other record: Labeo coubie , Volta Lake, Ghana ( Paperna 1979).

Site: Gill lamellae.

Type specimens: Holotype MNHN HEL 94 (Th 193); 2 paratypes MNHN HEL 95 (Th 194); 3 paratypes RMCA 37650, 37651.

Material examined: 3 unflattened and 6 flattened specimens in GAP.

Comparative material examined: Dactylogyrus cf labeous Paperna, 1979: 2 vouchers RMCA M.T. 35.516 D and F from Labeo coubie .

Etymology: The species is named after Amadou Demba Ndiaye, the guide from the Department of National Parks of Senegal in Tambacounda, for his helpful assistance.

Description: Body 271 (218–309; n = 3) long; greatest width 61 (54–66; n = 3) usually near midlength. Haptor 53 (44–65; n = 3) long, 84 (70–92; n = 3) wide. Single pair of anchors (dorsal): inner length 38 (36–40; n = 5); outer length 27 (26–28; n = 5); inner root 16 (15–17; n = 5) long; outer root 3 (2–3; n = 5) long; shaft with slightly swollen proximal part; point sharply recurved, 17 (16–18; n = 5) long. Anchor filaments welldeveloped. Two bars: dorsal bar bone-shaped, with bulbous lateral ends, 22 (20–23; n = 5) long, 3 (2–4; n = 5) wide; ventral bar reduced in size, vestigial, slightly bent, 6 (5–7; n = 6) long, 1 (n = 6) wide. Hooks 7 pairs, similar in shape, slightly dissimilar in size; hook lengths (n = 3): pair I = 20 (19–22); pair II = 22; pair III = 24 (23–24); pair IV = 23 (22–23); pair V = 20 (19–20); pairs VI, VII = 17 (17–18). Needles (1 pair) located near hooks of pair V. Vagina sclerotized, with distal finger-like projections, 7 (6–8; n = 5) long. Copulatory organ consists of wavy tube and articulated accessory piece with terminal branches guiding distal portion of copulatory tube; total length 27 (26–30; n = 6); tube trace-length 32 (27–34; n = 6).

Remarks: Dactylogyrus dembae n. sp. is similar to D. labeous Paperna, 1969 from Labeo senegalensis and D. jaculus Guégan, Lambert & Euzet, 1988 from L. coubie , based on the comparative morphology of the haptoral sclerotized structures (see Paperna 1969; Guégan et al. 1988). However, this new species is clearly differentiated from all congeners reported from L. coubie by possessing a copulatory organ with a relatively broad and centrally waved tube. As a result of our attempt to compare our specimens of D. jaculus Guégan, Lambert & Euzet, 1988 with the vouchers of D. cf labeous Paperna, 1979 (see above), conspecificity was found between these specimens (see Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 ). We therefore consider D. cf labeous from L. coubie to be a senior subjective synonym of D. dembae (not of D. jaculus ).
