Diagnosis. Description. Total length (head + trunk) of specimens 1.59–2.60 mm (n=4), holotype 2.32 mm. Specimens pale yellowish or whitish with dark blue or violet pigments weakly distributed over the distal half, proximal and distal regions of the Ant III–II; Ant I–Th II depigment; Th III–Abd III with a transverse band heavily pigmented; coxa III and trochanter III strongly pigmented; collophore and Abd IV–Abd VI always depigmented; eyepatches black ( Figs 54A–B View FIGURE 54 ).

Head. Antenna smaller than the trunk length ( Fig. 54A View FIGURE 54 ), ratio antennae: trunk = holotype 0.65: 1; antennal ratio as I: II: = 1: 1.03–1.53 (n=4), holotype 1: 1.47: 1.41: 2.03. Ant IV weakly annulated on its distal 3/4 and devoid of apical bulb, with at least 4 apical finger-shaped sens and numerous sens of different sizes. Ant III sense organ with 2 finger-shaped sens, 3 guard sens, 4 elongated sens and at least 6 finger-shaped sens. Ant II dorsally with about 6 elongated sens and 5 mac; ventrally with 5 apically acuminate mac ( Fig. 55A View FIGURE 55 ). Ant I dorsally with 2 elongated sens, 9 mac and 4 smooth mic at the base ( Fig. 55A View FIGURE 55 ). Eyes A and B larger, G and H slighlty smaller than the others, with 6 interocular chaetae (q, v, s, p, r, t), p as mac; head dorsal chaetotaxy ( Fig. 55C View FIGURE 55 ) with 9–11 ‘ An ’, 3 ‘ A ’, 4–5 ‘ M ’, 9 ‘ S ’, 1–2 ‘ Ps ’, 4 ‘ Pa ’, 2 ‘ Pi ’, 2 ‘ Pm ’, 1–2 ‘ Pmp ’, 5 ‘ Pp1 ’, 1 ‘ Ppe ’ and 5 ‘ Pe ’ mac (2 extra mac between the series), respectively. Clypeal formula with 4 (l1–2), 17–21 (f, 1 unpaired), 5 (pf0–2) ciliate chaetae, l1–2 longer and apically acuminate, 2 f and pf0–1 larger than the others, others subequal ( Fig. 55B View FIGURE 55 ). Labral inner papillae with 3–4 equal or unequal projections, outer papillae with 2 subequal projections and smaller than the inner papillae ( Fig. 56A View FIGURE 56 ). Prelabral chaetae smooth, pl1 equally or subequally bifurcated, pl2 unequally bifurcated ( Fig. 55B View FIGURE 55 ). Labial papilla E l.p. conical-shaped and not reaching the base of a.a.; e6 appendix absent ( Fig. 56B View FIGURE 56 ). Maxillary palp b.c. 1.03 longer than t.a.; sublobal plate with 3 inner appendages (sb1–3). Basolateral and basomedian labial fields with M1–2, R, E, L1–2 ciliate, M2 and R smaller than the others, M2 present or absent. Cephalic groove with 10–11 ciliate chaetae of different sizes; postlabial formula with 4 (G1–4), 3 (X2, X, X 4), 4 (H1–4) chaetae plus 3 chaetae between the series ( Fig. 56C View FIGURE 56 ).

Thorax chaetotaxy ( Fig. 57A View FIGURE 57 ). Th II a, m and p series (excluding the anterior collar) with 8, 5–6 and 18–20 mac, respectively. Th III a, m and p series with 7, 4–5 and 10–13 mac, respectively. Ratio Th II: III = 1.79–1.53: 1 (n=4), holotype 1.79: 1.

Abdomen chaetotaxy ( Figs 57B–C View FIGURE 57 ). Abd I a, m and p series with 2, 5–8 and 1 mac, respectively. Abd II a, m and p series with 1–2, 5 and 1–2 mac, respectively. Abd III a, m and p series with 1, 3 and 2 mac, respectively and 4 extra mac or mes laterally. Abd IV with 21–23 inner mac of A–C series and 17–22 outer mac of T–Fe series; about 12 sens (as and ps type I and others type II) and 23 posterior mes. Abd V a, m, p and pp series with 4, 3, 3, and 1 mac, respectively. Ratio Abd III: IV = 1: 7.32–9.19 (n=4), holotype 1: 9.00.

Legs ( Figs 58A–E View FIGURE 58 ). Subcoxa I with 3–4 chaetae and 2 psp; subcoxa II with an anterior row of 11 chaetae and about 25 anterior chaetae; posterior row of 6 chaetae, 2 anterior chaetae, 1 posterior chaeta and 4 psp; subcoxa III with one row of 9 chaetae, about 31 anterior chaetae, 1 posterior chaeta and 2 psp ( Figs 58A–C View FIGURE 58 ). Trochanteral organ with 48 spine-like chaetae, 5 anterior, 6 posterior, 30 internal, 1 apical and 6 on the distal arm ( Fig. 58D View FIGURE 58 ). Tibiotarsus I–III with 7 inner finely ciliate mac; 1 outer apically acuminate mac at the base. Unguis b.t. on proximal 1/2, m.t. on distal 2/4 and larger than b.t., a.t. minute and on distal 1/7. Unguiculus I–III lamellae (ae, ai, pe, pi) smooth and acuminate, except unguiculus III pe with 3 proximal teeth (partially serrated); ratio unguis: unguiculus = 1: 0.46. Tibiotarsus III smooth chaeta 1.14 longer than the unguiculus; tenent hair 0.87 smaller than the unguis ( Fig. 58E View FIGURE 58 ).

Collophore ( Fig. 59A View FIGURE 59 ). Anterior side with about 77–78 ciliate chaetae, 4 distal mac and about 73–74 chaetae of different sizes widely distributed on the corpus; posterior side with about 177 ciliate chaetae of different sizes widely distributed on the corpus (13 unpaired) and distally with 1 smooth chaeta; lateral flap with 12–22 smooth chaetae, without ciliate chaetae.

Furcula ( Figs 59B–D View FIGURE 59 ). Manubrium ventrally with 2 subapical and about 60 distal ciliate chaetae of different sizes ( Fig. 59B View FIGURE 59 ). Manubrial plate dorsally with 9–11 chaetae of different sizes and 3 psp ( Fig. 59C View FIGURE 59 ). Dens dental lobe with 2 (bs1 and bs2) thicker ciliate chaetae, bs1 subequal to bs2. Dens tightly crenulate on its distal one 1/8 distally with 2 rows (1 inner and 1 outer) of large modified chaetae, 1 inner chaeta distally larger than others. Mucro proximal tooth larger than distal one, mucronal spine almost reaching the proximal tooth apex ( Fig. 59D View FIGURE 59 ).

Distribution. Known only from type locality, Rondônia state, Cacaulândia municipality, Brazil ( Fig. 72 View FIGURE 72 ).

Etymology. The name “ elizeuli ” (in apposition) refers to Elizeul Viana Santos, father of the first author of the species.

Remarks. Entomobrya elizeuli sp. nov. resembles E. inaequalis Denis, 1924 from Paraná state ( Brazil), E. wasmanni Handschin, 1924 from Santa Catarina state ( Brazil), and E. uambae by the presence of a transversal band on trunk and mucro proximal tooth larger than distal the distal one ( Arlé 1959; Bonet 1933; Christiansen 1963; Denis, 1924; Handschin 1924). However, E. elizeuli sp. nov. differs from these species by a dark transversal band on Th III to Abd III ( Figs 54A–B View FIGURE 54 ), present on Th III to Abd I in E. inaequalis and E. wasmanni , while E. uambae has a dark transversal band exclusively on Abd IV ( Figs 29A–L View FIGURE 29 ). Entomobrya elizeuli sp. nov. also differs by Ant IV apical bulb absent (bilobed in E. inaequalis and E. wasmanni ), labral inner papillae with 3–4 projections ( Fig. 56A View FIGURE 56 ), (conical in E. inaequalis and E. wasmanni , with 2 projections in E. uambae ), unguiculus III ai lamella acuminate ( Fig. 58E View FIGURE 58 ) (slightly truncate in E. wasmanni and E. uambae ), unguiculus III pe lamella partially serrated ( Fig. 58E View FIGURE 58 ) (smooth in the others) and mucronal spine almost reaching the proximal tooth ( Fig. 59D View FIGURE 59 ) (reaching in the others). The new species also differs from E. uambae by head macrochaetotaxy ( Fig. 55C View FIGURE 55 ), with ‘ An ’ series with 9–11 mac (7–9 in E. uambae ) and Ps5, Pp4 and Pe6 mac present (absent in E. uambae ). On the trunk E. elizeuli sp. nov. differs by Abd IV ( Fig 57C View FIGURE 57 ) with 17–22 outer mac (12–16 outer in E. uambae ), and 23 posterior mes (16 in E. uambae ). Other differences between these species are summarized in Table 2.
