Type species.
Perophora albescens Jones, 1912.
Diagnosis.
Unmistakable, bird dropping-like white and brown coloration, white ground color combined with rounded forewings is unique to this genus.
Apomorphy.
Transtilla/valva apodeme formed by two columnar structures with multiple invaginations and internal wrinkles (Fig. 11a).
Remarks.
Tostallo was not included in St Laurent et al. (2018a), but was placed in Mimalloninae based on morphology due to the presence of all apomorphies of the subfamily. Furthermore, the shape of the uncus in Tostallo is nearly identical those of some Mimallo and Eadmuna , and the transtilla/valva apodeme configuration is similar to this structure these other genera as well. Our morphological phylogenetic analyses, except the unconstrained ML analysis, robustly support the inclusion of Tostallo in Mimalloninae, and we consider this evidence to confirm the subfamily placement of this unique genus. Ongoing molecular phylogenetics of Mimallonidae , which include Tostallo , support the placement of this genus in Mimalloninae (St Laurent in prep.).
