Hipposideros ruber Noack 1893 View in CoL
Hipposideros ruber Noack 1893 View in CoL , Zool. Jahrb. Abt. Syst. Oekol. Geogr. Tiere, 7: 586.
Type Locality: Tanzania, Eastern Province, Ngerengere River.
Vernacular Names: Noack's Leaf-nosed Bat.
Subspecies: :
Subspecies Hipposideros ruber subsp. ruber Noack 1893
Subspecies Hipposideros ruber subsp. guineensis K. Andersen 1906
Distribution: Senegal and Gambia to Ethiopia, south to Angola, Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique; Bioko ( Equatorial Guinea); São Tomé and Principe.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: bicolor species group. Included in caffer by Hill (1963 b), but clearly distinct; see Lawrence (1964), Kock (1969 a), Heller (1992), Jones et al. (1993), and Cotterill (2001 f). Subspecies limits are problematic, and it is possible that this complex includes more than one species.
