Inula bifrons Linnaeus View in CoL , Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 2: 1236. 1763.
"Habitat in Italia, Galloprovincia, Pyrenaeis." RCN: 6393.
Lectotype (Anderberg in Jarvis & Turland in Taxon 47: 363. 1998): Herb. Linn. No. 993.11 ( LINN) .
Current name: Inula bifrons L. View in CoL ( Asteraceae ).
Note: The Hermann (1698) reference that appeared in synonymy here had previously been cited in the synonymy of Conyza bifrons L. (1753) , leading many authors to assume that Linnaeus was restricting C. bifrons to a European taxon and simultaneously transferring it to Inula . However, this is not the case for, in 1763, he continued to recognise C. bifrons (Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1207), instead restricting it to a North American taxon. The correct authority is therefore I. bifrons L. , rather than I. bifrons (L.) L.
