[64 species and 9 additional subspecies]. The valid type species fixation is that of Curtis (1834), who selected Scarabaeus horticola Linnaeus, 1758 , but that is the type species of the genus Phyllopertha Stephens, 1830 . A subsequent designation based on an originally included nominal species is that of Westwood (1838), who selected Melolontha austriaca Herbst, 1783 , but that is the type species of the subgenus Autanisoplia Medvedev 1949 , not the nominotypical subgenus. An application to the Commission is necessary to fix Scarabaeus agricola Poda von Neuhaus, 1761 as type species of Anisoplia Schönherr, 1817 .
