[28 species and 22 additional subspecies]. The valid type species fixation is that of Shuckard in Swainson and Shuckard (1840), who selected Scarabaeus centaurus Fabricius,1775 ,but that species is currently included in the genus Augosoma Burmeister, 1841 . An application to the Commission is necessary to fix Scarabaeus gideon Linnaeus, 1767 as the type species of Xylotrupes Hope, 1837 .
