M. santacruzi Raw, 2000: 941 View in CoL .

HOLOTYPE: ♀ Brazil, Bahia, Ilhéus, Fazenda Baixão , 12/ii/1999 (A. Raw) ( MZSP?), not examined.

PARATYPES: 8 ♀, 4 ♂ same data (author’s collection; MZSP?; MPEG?; UFPR; Oxford Univ. Museum; USNM), examined .

FEMALE. Length of fore wing 9–9.7 mm (cf Raw, 2000); clypeus wider than high, H/ WClp 0.85, apex rather wide and round; malar space just a little more than 1/3 of the height of an antennal socket; mandible anterior surface without a prominent border; antennal scape very short, L/Wesc 2.27; occeli not so widely separated, POL about 1.7 diameters, POL/OOL a little more than 2/3; occiput with margin distinct but not very high; foraminal area shaped ventrally as a shelf; hypostomal lamella narrow; pronotum very short and wide, with lateral fovea, pronotal anterior margin medially with the lamella little reflexed, region just behind well raised into secondary margin, carina with lamella translucent, high at sides but not noticeably projecting laterally; mesoscutum a little wider than long, L/WMsc 0.96; fore wing very short, LDis/HMpl 1.9, pterostigma 3.4 times longer than wide; metanotum very oblique, little convex; inner claw of hind tarsus with the apex narrow; propodeum short and oblique, median furrow deep and long, rather narrow, reaching propodeal anterior margin, valve small and triangular; first segment of metasoma very short, LSI/HMpl 0.84, apex about 2.4 times wider than the base, in lateral view the dorsal profile not very convex, spiracles not prominent, sternum flattened, limit between sternum and tergum proximally marked by a rather low shining edge.

Color: black; tegula, parts of meso and metapleura, legs, dark brown; antenna below, brown; clypeus and face to upper border of ocular sinus, most of antennal scape, small spot on lower lateral angle of pronotum, spot on dorsal mesepisternal plate, spot on inner face of fore tibia, vivid reddish orange; outer orbit not very widely, carina and posterior margin of pronotum, small posterior spot on tegula, band on metanotum, valvular region of propodeum, distal band on first metasomal tergum, very narrow distal band on second tergum, one streak on mid and hind coxae, inner distal margin of trochanters, apex of femora, apex of fore and mid tibiae, narrow spot on dorsum of the fifth segment of fore tarsus, yellow; hind tibial spurs, brown; wings hyaline, veins dark brown (see also Raw, 2000).

MALE. Length of fore wing 8.5 mm; head in frontal view very low and wide, FHH/ intOW 0.90, clypeus very wide, H/WClp 0.81; antennal scape short and wide, L/Wesc 2.09; ventral surface of antennomeres with distinct shining tyloids, third antennomere about 2.88 times longer than wide, antennal apex moderately elongated, with evident potential to become spirally rolled, antennomeres 11 – 13 distinctly flattened below, 12 about 1.83 times longer than wide, 13 about 3 times longer than wide; anterior face of fore coxa slightly flattened; clypeus and frons with decumbent silvery pubescence.

Color: similar to female, but with larger areas of frons and pronotum tinged with orange yellow; additional yellow areas on antennal apex, mandible, inner orbit, and scutellum.

Remarks

Specimens of M. santacruzi were not found in the Brazilian museums originally indicated by the author. Two paratypes donated to “Universidade Federal do Paraná ” (UFPR) were made available by Dr. Gabriel A. R. de Melo. The species is similar to M. frontalis , with the first metasomal segment less convex in lateral view, and the propodeal cavity narrower.

Distribution SOUTH AMERICA: Brazil (BA).
