Subgenus Stenaptinus Maindron, 1906
Pheropsophus (Stenaptinus) javanus Dejean, 1825 View in CoL
Bates (1892) lists a junior synonym of this species, Pheropsophus agnatus Chaudoir 1876 View in CoL as occurring in Hong Kong. Hrdlièka (2003), however, does not indicate it for Hong Kong. It can be quite common under rocks in gravel or coarse sandy areas adjacent to marshes. Specimens were determined from Habu (1984). Material: 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 26.ii.08, under wet stone; Sight record Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 3.iii.09, under wet stone; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 11.ix.12, under wet stone; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 30.ix.08, under wet stone; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 9.x.12, under wet stone; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 9.x.12; Sight record Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, October 2009, under wet stone; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 27.xi.07, under wet stone. Biology: Imago found September to March, though this may be biased as accessibility into the marsh habitat is difficult in the summer wet season. This species is common in Pui O under the heaped stones and rocks in the gravel / coarse sandy areas forming the banks of the wet marsh. Found singularly or in pairs.
Pheropsophus (Stenaptinus) jessoensis Morawitz, 1862 View in CoL
Chaudoir (1876a) noted that a specimen of this species was sold to him as coming from Hong Kong. There is one modern record, which was identified from Habu (1984). Material: 1 ex. Hong Kong, Kam Tin, Tin Sam Tsuen 16.iv.08 (Leg. Yiu Vor).
Pheropsophus (Stenaptinus) occipitalis ( MacLeay, 1825) View in CoL
Andrewes (1930) lists P. fuscicollus ( Dejean 1825) a junior synonym of this species occurring in Hong Kong. Hrdlièka (2003) lists Hong Kong for this species.
