Genus Platynus Bonelli, 1810 View in CoL
This genus is possibly represented in Hong Kong by beetles showing shiny black colour, sharp posterior angles of the pronotum and transverse dorsal sulcus behind the eyes. This 9.5 mm long species with testaceous appendages differs from all other Hong Kong Platynini in having the entire base of the pronotum punctured. Material: 2 exx. Hong Kong, Lantau, Mui Wo, 14.xii.10, under stones and wood below previous nights high water mark in saltwater pools in reed bed; 2 exx. Hong Kong, Lantau, Mui Wo, 17.ii.12, under rock in saline reed bed. Biology: Imago only recorded in the winter months though this may be due to observer bias. Under stones in tidal reedbeds
