Subgenus Dolichonotus Buchanan, 1936
Dolichonotus Buchanan 1936: 9 . Gender masculine. Type species: Panscopus (Dolichonotus) convergens Buchanan , by original designation. Blackwelder 1939: 66; Kissinger 1964: 36; Alonso-Zarazaga and Lyal 1999: 186; Anderson 2002: 782.
Subgeneric Name. A combination of two Greek words, Latinized: “dolichos ”, long and “notos”,
back, referring to the relatively longer pronotum in adults of Dolichonotus . Specimens of this subgenus have the pronotum approximately as long as wide and only slightly convex laterally in dorsal view, in contrast to most other Panscopus species in which the pronotum is wider than long, with the lateral margins more convexly rounded.
Diagnosis. Adults of this subgenus have an antennal scape extending to, or nearly to, the posterior margin of the eye, a pronotum approximately as long as wide, and (in contrast to Phymatinus ) both females and males have five abdominal ventrites.
Included Species. Panscopus convergens , P. oregonensis , and P. acutisetus .
