Hercinothrips bicinctus (Bagnall) View in CoL
( Figs 25 View FIGURES 18–33 , 58 View FIGURES 52–64 , 86 View FIGURES 77–91 )
This species has been reported from Brazil as a pest of banana ( Suplicy Filho & Sampaio 1982, Fancelli & Mesquita 2000), but there are no available specimens to support this record, and recent collections of thrips from banana crops in Brazil produced no Hercinothrips . The only known specimen of H. bicinctus from Brazil is in the California Academy of Sciences, collected in São Paulo on “night queen” by Dario Mendes. This specimen lacks both antennae, but other character states support the identification as H. bicinctus .
